#somewherebeyondthesea is an installation that combines 3D printed sculpture with moving images. It explores the relationship between objects and images and how they can transform into one another. The images used in the installation are sourced from Instagram, specifically from a search for the hashtag “#somewherebeyondthesea.”

The artist extracts the blue pixels representing the ocean from these images and post-processes them to create a composite image of the sea. Using the color data from this composition, a 3D model is generated and transformed into a sculpture. The installation also features moving images that show the gradual layering of the ocean blue pixels.

In the age of digital technology and online connectivity, the boundaries between data and physical objects have blurred. The way we perceive and interact with them has become increasingly similar. Just like the interconnectedness represented by the “#” symbol linking the searched data, it evokes the image of a continuously expanding entity.
